A catcall is entirely about reminding you that you are not yours. The purity myth is entirely about reminding you that you are not yours. The fetishization of female purity in a world where catcalls are an acceptable form of communication telegraphs one thing very clearly:

“Women, stop sexualizing yourselves—that’s our job, and you’re taking all the fun out of it.”

The sexualization of women is only appealing if it’s nonconsensual. Otherwise it’s “sluttiness,” and sluttiness is agency and agency is threatening.

Ugh….these are unhelpful words

Why doesn’t our culture teach us to say caring things like

“I know it seems like nothing is wonderful and everything hurts; but it won’t last forever and you are so much more than just frazzled nerves and leaky tear ducts. You’ll be a lot happier after I remind you why I love you, it’s okay that you forgot”

*I meant this for my personal blog, but it clearly resonated*

Traditional FA [Fat Acceptance] arguments have relied on the idea that the way to diffuse these hateful statements is to prove that fat isn’t necessarily unhealthy. But by doing so we’ve ceded the premise that health status is, in fact, grounds for hating or despising someone. And as long as the tiniest statistical correlation between fatness and whatever-disease exists, we’ve lost the argument, because we diffused the wrong bomb: we should have rejected the idea that it’s okay to hate people for being ‘unhealthy,’ period.

I will always preach that it is unnecessary for you to be healthy to deserve respect.

Health is not a moral imperative.

PERIOD.

Nothing to see here: Body image, plus-sized fashion, and respect

I like this list of fashion bloggers who are over size 24 quite a bit.

I follow many fat fashion bloggers, because these women are incredibly fucking brave to put their bodies out in front of the world every day and make US question what we find beautiful/normal/acceptable/whatever word.

I…

I think this is an awesome list - because I love seeing bodies that look like mine. Visibility is such a big damn deal!

Man, I do look forward to it no longer being brave to be visible though. Maybe one day.

I’ve created these flyers for a school activist project where I bring more attention to the women in history that have been forgotten or ignored. This blog will be an extension of those flyers where I post longer biographies of these women and other bad-ass women like them. Too often women’s achievements have been pushed aside, either by others in their lives, or else by the historians who choose to ignore them. This tumblr is dedicated to celebrating them and bringing their achievements to light!

Wow, eff you, Otto Hahn.
